Through April, Seven Sisters Gallery in Black Mountain is hosting an exhibit of paintings by Kate Thayer. “She is a master of pastels and now with her incorporating oils, it’s even better,” says gallery owner Andrea McNair. “You really have to get up close to her pieces to enjoy all of the unexpected details.”

Kate says our area’s mountains have enchanted her and become the inspiration for her paintings.

She earned degrees from Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin. Since then, she says, her “classroom” has been the major galleries and museums around the world.

She paints scenes—mountains, rivers, woods—that are at the same time ordinary and enchanting, reminding us to slow down and appreciate all that is around us.

“My work is intended to cast an enchanting spell on the imagination of viewers by seeing the beauty of nature through my eyes.

“It is my passion to bring my skills and years of study to my personal interpretation of the beauty and mysteries of nature to those who encounter my paintings.”

Kate’s paintings have been juried and awarded in regional, national, and international shows, and two of her pieces appear in the 2015 volume of International Contemporary Artists.
